The Sims 2 Nook!

The Sims 2 is one of my favorite games and I've played it since 2018 so this nook on my personal website is dedicated to it!

Observation Tower

A wooden observation tower I built for my Finnish town inspired neighborhood. I recommend placing some trees and stones around it in the neighborhood view!

  • Community lot.
  • To get a better view of your whole neighborhood, your view distance in the game should be high. You can achieve this by having the "uintProp lotSkirtSizeIncrease 120" cheat in your userStartup.cheat file. I recommend following greatcheesecakepersona's tutorial for adding a more open world feel to the game.
  • SimCity Vault

Welcome to SimCity Vault - inspired by the Vaults from the Fallout games and based mostly on Vault 101 and slighty on Vault 33 from the Fallout show! Add this nuclear shelter built underground, protected by sturdy bedrock, to your The Sims 2 neighborhood and come up with what your own Vault is experimenting on.

  • There might be some lag since this is one heck of a building and has a lot of interactable communal space for an apartment building. The basement level also might be a bit of a hassle to navigate.
  • There are 4 rentable apartments and 1 fake apartment that’s intended to be the Overseer’s apartment/office. Your sim could “live” there or you could change the door to turn it into a proper apartment. All the apartments should have the bare necessities so as to avoid those annoying wants about buying a fridge etc. (I only made 4 apartments because there can gameplay-wise be only 4 playable families living in one apartment building, otherwise random townies will rent the rest.)
  • In vanilla game, the communal diner is mostly there for decoration as you cannot use the stove or the microwave oven to make food. The buffet table is usable though, if served.
  • The underground garden is usable but you will need to plant something there for every playable family - the landlord will help you to take care of them though!
  • Before moving in the families, you can change the decorations, walls etc. with the “changeLotZoning residential” cheat to your liking. “changeLotZoning apartmentbase” changes it back to a functional apartment building.
  • Testing this build, I noticed there was some funky routing when a sim tried to cook food in the apartments. Make sure your sims put their dishes away as not lose the only counter space in the apartment.
  • Some suspension of disbelief is necessary: kids will still need to go to school, sims will exit out of the lot if they have a job, the Vault has a landlord that will come and go, and some NPCs will barge inside the Vault, like the paper delivery boy or wolves. Some mods can solve these issues if you want your Vault to be “fully sealed”.
  • Mod and custom content suggestions for gameplay:
    • Apartment Fixes by simlogical to assign certain communal spaces for sim needs. These should added in the build mode before moving in the families.
    • Shiny Tyme Everywhere Patch to spawn a cafeteria worker NPC at the diner's stove.
    • Visitor controller by TwoJeffs to ban certain NPCs from the lot.
    • Bunk beds for larger families, for example Shelf Beds by simlogical.
    • Vault suits and Pip-boys for your Vault Dwellers, like these ones by Davina!
